Reading is not the only way to encourage your child’s language development skills. Storytelling is a fun way for your child to get accustomed to hearing different words, syllables and sounds that they may not have normally heard in regular daily conversations. It draws on data collected during an evaluation of an in-service training programme that introduced UK-based early years practitioners to a version of Paley’s (1990) storytelling and story acting curriculum known as the Helicopter Technique (HT).
